Welcoming a Company with Futuristic Autonomous Driving Technology to Hokkaido

From November 24–28, we had the privilege of hosting a Singapore-based company that is developing advanced autonomous driving technologies, for a series of discussions with partners across Hokkaido’s innovation ecosystem.

Through their visit, we were reminded that “autonomous driving” is far from a single, uniform category. When examined more closely, the required processes, cost structures, and safety models vary significantly depending on the approach and application.

They introduced a physical AI–based autonomous driving solution that differs fundamentally from most conventional systems. Their technology does not rely on GPS or LiDAR, and instead focuses on continuously recording system logs and mathematically verifying every movement. This approach ensures transparency, traceability, and avoids the risks associated with black-box systems — a critical consideration for real-world deployment and trust.

These discussions provided valuable insights into how next-generation autonomous technologies could be applied and adapted within Japan, particularly in regions like Hokkaido, where geography, climate, and logistics present unique challenges and opportunities.

We remain committed to introducing outstanding global technologies to Japan and Hokkaido, while building a foundation for sustainable growth through collaboration with local partners.

Our sincere appreciation goes to everyone who supported this program, contributed their time and expertise, and made these discussions possible, such as municipal governments, and their related organizations, local businesses and academic institutions. Thank you all for your collaboration.
